Kombinat, Tirana: a renter’s guide

At the far end of Rruga e Kavajës, Kombinat offers some of the lowest rents within Tirana, which suits students, young workers and families planning a long stay. Getting into town is straightforward: L15A runs from Kombinat right across the city to Kinostudio, and L12A and L12B also serve the area, while LRR19 and L181 head out to Pezë and Arbanë. Several primary schools and Shkolla e Mesme Myslym Keta are close by.

Where it is

Kombinat is at the far south-western end of Rruga e Kavajës, roughly 4.5 km out from Skanderbeg Square. It falls under Administrative Unit no. 6, with Yzberisht as its neighbour.

Getting around

This is the end of the line for two routes: L15A Kombinat–Kinostudio, which crosses the entire city, and the line to Tufinë. Local stops are also served by L12A and L12B (Karburanti), a line to Pezë and L181 Kombinat–Arbanë.

The neighbourhood

Its heart is Garibaldi Square, once the open space in front of the factory gates. The unit’s office is on Rruga Shaban Bardhoshi. Schools nearby include the “Musine Kokalari” and “Lasgush Poradeci” primary schools and the “Myslym Keta” secondary school.

Housing and history

Kombinat began as a workers’ district around 1950, in the years either side of it, built around the Soviet-aided Textile Combine that gave it its name. The 26 November 2019 earthquake left 67 blocks damaged, and the municipality pulled them down; a new quarter called “KombinArt” is going up on the site, and keys have already gone to its first families. When you see a listing, ask whether the flat is in one of the old blocks or a new one.
